The stair lift history is short. It is estimated that in around 1920, the first stair lift design was created by a businessman from Pennsylvania – C.C Crispin. Crispin’s need for a stair lift was due to the illness of his friend who could not move from floor-to-floor within his house. He named his conception ‘The Inclin-ator’. Recently discussed however, by historians such as Dr. David Starkey, is that the first stair lift was produced as far back as 1536.
