How To Establish A Bedtime Routine For Your Kids
Convincing your toddler to go to bed maybe sometimes a headache. Thinking and applying whatever tactics you can do to let your toddler sleep might have been utilized and exhausted and yet you will realize in the end that the toddler is still wide awake.
After giving instructions to the child, parents have to repeat their instructions using different techniques of persuasion such as imploring, demanding, arguing and even threatening. This turns into a battle of wits and will.
The fact is, you need to realize early on that you are the boss. The reason you are encouraging your child to sleep early is because you love them and you want what is best for them. This is not a matter of power struggle but understanding that it is for their best interest that they sleep early.
If you’re child has started arguing with you when it comes to their scheduled bedtime, then you have let your child take the upper hand.
Once the negotiation begins, the parent looses because the child just gained control of the situation. Each parent should stand firm and not allow this to happen.
When bedtime is approaching, you remind the toddler that in a few minutes he/she will be going to bed. At least 15 minutes before bedtime so that he/she can prepare, set his/her mind that he/she will be going to bed for the next few minutes.
There should also be warnings to make. And when bed time alarms, you really force him/her to go to bed. Be sure to let him/her use the restroom first to avoid hassles later. And if necessary, like if your child is used to listening to bedtime stories, then one or two is enough.
If you set this routine, a child will automatically prepare for bed without argument when bedtime comes around. But, if you are still in the process in training your child and the child gets up, calmly walk them back to bed. Ignore any arguments or chit chat. When you are firm on your decision, you’ll see that your child will learn to sleep when it’s time to as well.
