Sliding closet doors are an excellent option because they are space savers. They usually are made from wood products and slide along a track on the floor and on the top frame of the closet.

A sliding door is just one of the choices when it comes to closing up a closet. You can get a louver, a conventional hinge door, a plastic bi-fold, a wooden bi-fold, and any of the other options available for closeting. Sliding doors are the only option, however, that does not take up additional floor space. Traditional doors require room to be able to swing open. This means you lose space in your room.

A bi-fold door does not offer much relief when the loss of floor space is the concern, as it can take around two feet of floor space to open and close. Sliding closet doors take zero feet of floor space to operate. They can work on two principals.

They can be pocket doors which are very old world chic or they can run along tracks from side to side of the closet opening. And those that are used for single closets can only be engineered in the pocket model, because of the space constraints; there would be no place to slide to. For double closets either option can be used.

Plastic or laminate is one of the types of sliding closet doors. Wooden is the one one. Most of the time, they have a hollow core and are constructed from wood products. However, they can be made from real wood. The plastic and laminate sliding closet doors aren’t nearly as durable as the wooden ones, however.

Sliding closet doors can actually be cheaper than traditional closet doors, of course there is the track work to consider as well, but still the cost can be significantly cheaper than traditional closet doors. The price will vary and is dependent upon the size and the material.
